An illustration based on on a colour template I found
I made sure to use the colour and their meanings to my advantage in this illustration

A graphic novel solo project I worked on September 2024 - January 2025 during my minor at St. Joost school of art and design.
My graphic novel is based on the story of the Iliad, focusing on the psychological aspects of this timeless story. In a world full of retelling of this tale, I wanted to stay as close to the original as possible, while also approaching it from a different angle than we’re used to.
I turned the attention away from the war and actions of the characters, and shifted my focus to the “why?” and used both imagery and dialogue to answer that question.

Boots - a 1900s poem

When Joel dies in The last of us II, his character is weirdly accepting of the fact that he’s going to die. He’s very aware that there is no way out so I decided to give him a sort of “deer in the headlights” type imagery in this illustration, stretching this theme further by adding the chosen text.

Based on:

Ethel Cain’s song “strangers” tells the story of a girl who was kidnapped and cannibalised by her boyfriend in 1991. One of the lyrics inspired me to make an illustration based on this story. The story behind the image is so heartbreaking all the while the simple milk carton is something that you see on the daily, and those conflicting emotions are very interesting to me.
This is also the reason why I added the expiration date on the carton, expressing even further the hopelessness of the story that’s being told.
